Rear Admiral Nimmich to serve as Commencement Speaker for
“This is a wonderful day for the entire Saint Dominic community,” said its pastor, Reverend Kevin M. Smith. The high school has a great number of alumni who are leaders in business, law and so many fields. To have someone of Admiral Nimmich’s stature return to Saint Dominic in this capacity is indicative of our efforts to reach out to our alumni.” As Commander, First Coast Guard District, Admiral Nimmich oversees all Coast Guard missions across eight states in the Northeast and 2,000 miles of coastline from the U.S.-Canadian border to northern Admiral Nimmich holds a Bachelor of Science in History from the Rear Admiral Nimmich’s personal awards include a Defense Superior Service Medal, the Legion of Merit (with 3 Gold Stars), Meritorious Service Medal, the Coast Guard Commendation Medal (with three stars and operational ‘O’ device), the Coast Guard Achievement Medal (with two stars and operational ‘O’ device), the Commandant’s Letter of Commendation (with star and operational ‘O’ device) and the Department of Transportation 9-11 Medal. “I have fond memories of Saint Dominic,” said Admiral Nimmich. “My siblings attended Saint Dominic, and my mother was a guidance counselor there for many years. I am honored to have been invited and I look forward to being with the Class of 2010 and their families.” SAINT DOMINIC TO HONOR FRITO LAY PRESIDENT & CEO Oyster Bay, New York Saint Dominic High School is pleased to announce that Mr. Al Carey, President & Chief Executive Officer of Frito Lay North America and a member of Saint Dominic’s Class of 1969, has accepted the invitation of Father Kevin M. Smith, Pastor of the Church of Saint Dominic, to serve as one of the honorees for the 2010 Gala & Auction, to be held at the Crest Hollow Country Club, on Friday, March 26, 2010. Mr. Carey, who attended the University of Maryland on a Track scholarship and presently serves as a University Trustee, reflected on his days at Saint Dominic. “It’s been forty-years since I have been at the school. The buildings are in great shape, and the athletic complex and fields are second-to-none. I am truly grateful to the faculty and staff at Saint Dominic for providing me with the tools and necessary encouragement to help me succeed. Saint Dominic really laid the groundwork for all my future successes.” Fr. Smith, who has been pastor at Saint Dominic for fifteen months, was delighted to get Mr. Carey on board. “Saint Dominic High School has been educating young men and women throughout our diocese for more than eighty-years and having someone of Mr. Carey’s stature and profile return to his alma mater and lend his name and commitment to support the high school is tremendous. Assemblyman Mckevitt addresses Honors Convocation New York State Assemblyman, Tom McKevitt, Saint Dominic's Class of 1989, returned to his alma mater on October 29, 2009 to address the newest members of a number of Honor Societies during the annual Honors Convocation.
