My name is Maria Mendoza. I am originally from Cuba and I also lived in Madrid, Spain before coming to the United States. I started my studies in Spanish Literature and History at the University of Texas in San Antonio and continued my studies at California State University in Los Angeles. I have had the privilege of teaching at St. Dominic for 25 years and have chaired the World Language Department for the past 23. Our department's philosophy is not only to teach the students how to communicate in the target language, but also to introduce them to culture and history. To enhance the students' learning experience our department sponsors the International Club, the Spanish National Honor Society and Italian National Honor Society. The International Club meets every other Monday and the Societies meet every other Wednesday. Our department also sponsors a yearly trip to Europe. The trips have been a great success because they not only offer our students the opportunity to practice the language they are learning, but they also come in direct contact with the people and the culture of the countries we visit. If you would like further information about our curriculum and any of the clubs and activities, please visit our page.
