irginia Commonwealth University is a premier public urban research institution located in the heart of Richmond, Virginia.  We have 2 downtown campuses, 3 colleges, 11 schools, almost 70 majors and a similar number of minor & certificate programs.  Below are some of our signature programs:
Honors College: 1,000 students total, across all majors.  4-year curriculum of small seminars, lecture series, and social events with special research, internship and study abroad opportunities.  This group of high achieving students also get early course registration and have their own living-learning community.
Guaranteed Admissions Program: Secure graduate spots in the Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Occupational Therapy or Physical Therapy programs; Secure undergraduate spots in Nursing, Dental Hygiene, Clinical Laboratory Sciences, or Clinical Radiation Sciences majors.  These students tend to have very strong GPAs, standardized test scores, extracurriculars and shadowing experiences.
School of the Arts: #2 ranked public arts program in the U.S. with a large number of programs in the visual arts & design fields.  VCUarts also has a satellite campus in Qatar.
College of Engineering: Biomedical, Chemical & Life Science, Electrical & Computer, and Mechanical & Nuclear Engineering, as well as Computer Science (students generally start in their major from the moment they get to campus - as opposed to schools that start with a foundational first year).  In February, we opened our brand new $93 million, 133,00 square foot Engineering Research Building.
da Vinci Center for Innovation: Collaborative programs in Product Innovation, Venture Creation and Human Centered Design with students from the College of Humanities & Sciences, College of Engineering, School of Arts and School of Business.
Wilder School of Government and Public Affairs: Featuring programs in Urban & Regional Studies, Homeland Security and Criminal Justice.  The school also has the Virginia Capitol Semester where students can split their time studying in the classroom and working at the Virginia State Capitol (located less than 2 miles from our Monroe Park Campus)
REAL Initiative (starting Fall 2021): In response to the needs of employers and graduate schools, we will be introducing students to experiential learning opportunities from their first semester.  These will start at the introductory level and build in complexity so all students will have at least one high-level Relevant, Experiential, and Applied Learning opportunity by time they graduate.
We also have partnered with over 300 international universities in more than 50 countries to offer study abroad programs that last one week, a three week inter-session, a semester or a full academic year.
Fall 2020 Middle 50%: Weighted GPA: 3.39 - 4.06, SAT 1050 - 1260, ACT 21 - 28
Acceptance Rate: 87%
Minimum Honors College metrics: GPA 3.5 (4.0 scale), SAT 1330, ACT 29

Before 2021, we were test optional for students with 3.3 Weighted GPA or higher.  The Honors College and Guaranteed Admissions Program required standardized tests
For 2021, we were test optional for all students, except those applying for the Guaranteed Admissions Program.  Standardized test scores were not a consideration for merit scholarships.
A decision has not been made yet with regards to 2022.
