National English Honor Society
National English Honor Society: Veritas Chapter All applicants must meet the following criteria:
- English Honor society applications will be available from the National English Honor Society moderator on September 18, 2023.
- Fully completed applications can be submitted by email or in person to Ms. Peduto at [email protected] by October 6, 2023.
Applications not fully completed or submitted by October 6, 2023 will not be considered for membership.
Members MUST attend monthly meetings remotely. NEHS meetings are the second Thursday of the month: October 5, November 2, December 7, January 4, 2023, February 1, March 7, and May 2. If you are unable to attend, you should notify me as soon as possible to discuss how you will meet with a leader and conduct school community service for one hour to compensate for missing the meeting. If you miss a meeting, you will be placed on probation. If you miss two meetings, you will no longer be eligible for membership.

Members must have documentation of participation of twelve hours (6 hours by January 11, 2023; and 6 hours by May 11, 2023) of the following activities, which does not include class time:
- Newspaper
- Peer tutoring
- Yearbook
- Video lessons
- Bookworms
- NEHS activities
- Writing Center at SDES (if we have one this year)
If hours are not accomplished by the specified dates, students will be put on probation, during which they will have one month to rectify their deficiencies. In the case that these requirements are not met during the probation period, students will be dismissed from the honor society. In addition, students must continue to illustrate good character in the academic, athletic, and school communities. Any student who fails to meet this requirement will be placed on probation or dismissed.
