About Me

Welcome! My name is Pamela Shanley and I am so happy to be here at St. Dominic High School.

I teach AP Biology, Anatomy and Forensics, Applied Math and Novice Research Methods, and Molecular and Genomic Research, our partnership program with the Cold Spring Harbor Lab DNA Learning Center. I also moderate our Science Olympiad team and Science Honor Society, and help maintain the Greenhouse. I love all things biology and STEM; in the past I have also taught AP Environmental Science, Regents Living Environment and Earth Science, as well as various science electives.

I am a graduate of SUNY Geneseo where I received my Bachelor's degree in Biology. I have always enjoyed science, but it was at Geneseo that I truly fell in love with exploring the natural world through field trips to the fossil-rich Fall Brook Falls, glacially carved Mendon Ponds Park, and bird migratory hotspot Braddock Bay.  Through these experiences I got to practice science in the field while learning how to teach it in the classroom. In 2015 I also graduated St. Joseph's University in Patchogue where I received my Masters in Adolescent Special Education.

As a product of pre-K-12 Catholic education myself, I started my teaching career teaching middle school science at St. Edward the Confessor School in Syosset in 2012, and have been teaching science at St. Dominic High School since 2017. I consider myself blessed to be teaching in a school with a strong faith community that is committed to excellent science education.  My hope is to lead my students to the same excitement about learning and curiosity in the natural world that I found when I was in school, and foster an environment where they can develop both academically and spiritually. Outside the classroom you can find me reading, baking, crafting, or spending time outside with my family, including my inquisitive preschooler and adventurous toddler twins!

"The most exciting phrase in science, the one that heralds new discoveries, is not "Eureka!" but "That's funny...'"
-Isaac Asimov
